Social Action Projects and Capacity building training in Dessie

Light Ethiopia is locally established non-profit organization works on social issues for the community particularly on providing awareness rising trainings on prevention of HIV and other related health problems in Dessie. HOLLA is a major project for Light Ethiopia as a local Implementing partner organization to build the capacity of youth to contribute for the wellbeing of their communities.
Through the process of identifying the gaps of well-organized training provision and luck of continues support to motivate the youth to become more active in their engagement, Light Ethiopia undertake the implementation of HOLLA project since 2014. In collaboration with Initiative Africa (a leading implementing partner for HOLLA project in Ethiopia) and British Council, Light Ethiopia has organized various trainings for peer educators and community actors such as Active Citizen Training, Contextual analysis training and other training on leadership. The first training was started by providing training for 6 selected peer educators in Addis Ababa and consequently the number grows to train up to 33 community actors through cascading model.
After successful completion of the training, the youth has designed Social Action project on drug addiction through awareness creation campaign and prevention of early marriage and FGM. This event showed the courage and motivation of those young people who has been passed the training process on the project implementation. In addition to this, the community actors developed strong partnership with Dessie youth Associations by participating in different voluntary based activities such as blood donation, cleaning and beautification of dirty corner, supporting of women with special needs and the like.
